Training as a DESMOND Educator opens the door to our inner circle; you will get support and guidance through the award winning DESMOND training programme and quality assurance pathway, as well as the newly launched DESMOND Academy including monthly Guest Speaker workshops, and much more! There is no time like to present to train as a DESMOND Educator and we can’t wait to see you at training. Being a DESMOND Educator can be great for the CV and extremely rewarding. Read below for more information about the training and support available to you as a DESMOND Educator.

Please note - in order to train as a DESMOND Educator in any of our programmes you must be aligned with a licensed DESMOND Provider.

TRAINING

Please note due to the current national pandemic all DESMOND Educator training will take place virtually over MS Teams.

As a centre for award-winning training, the DESMOND Programme now has a number of training days and options available:

DESMOND Core training – a 1-day course which looks at the philosophy, theories and behaviours that underpin all of our modules. This training is the first step in Educator training.

Module-Specific training – a 1-day course which introduces each Educator to the curriculum and resources they will need to deliver their chosen module to patients.

Lay Educator support – If you/your team member are lay personnel or non-registered Healthcare Professional (HCP), we offer additional support prior to attending the above two training days for the Newly Diagnosed and Foundation (NDF) module.

Academy

The DESMOND Academy launched in July 2020 as a new innovative way of support existing Educators and Provider organisation alike. Through the DESMOND Academy we now offer a wide range of virtual workshops including building and maintaining Educators confidence to deliver, MyDESMOND administration and reporting and monthly Questions and Answer sessions.

Quality development

Unique to all DESMOND products is our award-winning quality assurance package - in keeping with the DESMOND style and philosophy this is called the Quality Development Framework as we see this a much more supportive mechanism than quality assurance usually derives. We provide all trained Educators with a range of pathways designed to support them in building their confidence and ensuring the high quality delivery of their group sessions.

Positive feedback from DESMOND Educator, Danielle Weiner, Diabetes Specialist Dietitian and team lead at Northern Care Alliance NHS Group:

“Through the DESMOND behaviours, philosophy, particularly the analogies (glucose is trying to get into the room and needs a key to get in) has really transformed the way I am as a clinician. The behaviours, philosophy and education is transferable to ‘out of the classroom and to other clinical settings’. It has helped with my confidence in delivering other structured education and the DESMOND way feels the normal way now. A colleague who was observing me in another in house education course said he really liked the delivery of my session and really got the group involved and you had a great rapport with them! I said it was the DESMOND way! He is due to observe a session soon! Looking forward to DESMOND gains in 2025!!”
